Q&A: free makeup advice|Where can I get free makeup advice without having products pushed on me?
Question–: Where can I get free makeup advice without having products pushed on me?
I’d like to get some makeup advice or a makeover to help me learn how to cover up my dark circles under my eyes, but don’t want a sales pitch thrown at me. I’ve been to The Body Shop for advice, but felt like they were just trying to sell me their products rather than help me. I know they’ve got to makes sales, but it’s annoying sometimes. I’ve always been hesitant to go to department store counters because it just seems like anyone can work at those. Salons make you pay, so that’s out the window. I know Merle Norman will give you advice, but do you feel pressure to buy something afterwards? If it helps, location-wise, I’m in the Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, OH area.

The people in dept stores are trained. It is only polite to buy some of the products in return for the time and expertise spent on you. I always buy one or two. I really don’t think people should learn from them & not buy something.

I think it would be good to go to a stylist that isn’t a product pusher, (or at least not a very good product pusher). LOL! Really, my friend got EXTREMELY good advice from a professional stylist and got AMAZING results! Seriously, try it!

I have been in the Skin Care buisness for years, and Speaking from experience..(I am Sicillian and have very dark circles under my eyes) Go to the Bobbi Brown Counter at Macy’s. I know it is a make up counter, But I have worked with many girls who have worked here, They DO know what the yare talking about.. Bobbi has an amazing cover system for dark circles. Just ask them about it.. You can get an entire makeover and not expect to pay. other than that, I used to get alot of Flack for being in Skin care (working along side Dr Rodan (inventor of Pro-activ) And being a Faithfull follower of Cover-Girl.. They have a liquid cover that works amazingly as well!. Good Luck!!
